• Who are you?
Well, if you are actually interested, you can find out more about me here. As time goes by, you will no doubt find out more about me as the posts get written, but for now I’ll just leave it at that.
  • What do you do in real life?
I was one of these people who really liked school, and was also scared about going out and getting a real job, so I basically carried on through the education system as long as I could until they kicked me out. That kind of happened about a year and a half ago, but they didn’t kick me out as such, it was more like I couldn’t go on any further. I more or less dead-ended on the road to getting qualified as there was no further I could go (unless I changed to a completely different subject). Kind of embarrassing really, but ho well, there you go, I’m a professional dork. It doesn’t make me a special person, or more important than anyone else, or any different from anyone else, all it means is that I’m qualified to do what I do. Just like an accountant needs to take lots of exams during training, the equivalent for me is that I need two or three college degrees for my right of passage. I just happen to acquire the title of ‘Dr’ in the process, but it’s actually not that useful a title to have outside of My World. I enjoy what I do though, and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
  • Why did you start to blog?
Good question, why did I start to blog. Hmm. I actually started writing one quite a while ago over on another website, but at the time when I started that, I wasn’t that good with the whole website coding thing, so it wasn’t very pretty to look at. Actually I used the whole blog thing as a means of teaching myself geek speak, and it was quite successful in that respect. I didn’t really know at the time what I wanted to write about either, so not only was it unpretty to look at, but it was also probably a right boring read. But since starting that site, quite a lot has happened in my life….finished grad school (FINALLY!), moved over to California to be with The Man, got proposed to by The Man, and then came all the bits to do with everything surrounding that. So all in all, it’s quite a big time for me. I’m not really one for sitting down and writing these days, god I think I must only use a real life pen about 3 times a month these days, so writing a journal journal was kind of not going to happen. Computers on the other hand? Well, I use those a lot more, so thus the idea of starting a blog was born.
  • Why did you use WordPress.com and not the standalone WordPress.org thing?
I’m still actually not very good with codes and computers and things, so I thought I would start off here first, as god knows what sort of mess I’d get myself into if I tried to do things with self-hosting and ftp-sites. I tried a couple of programs (Blogger, Typepad, Squarespace), but I just seemed to get on better with this one. I actually really did like Squarespace, but I just didn’t know if I’d get an audience. Eventually, it’s an ambition of mine to use something like Moveable Type, and to do the whole self management thing, but we’ll see how things go. Oh, I should also mention that I do a lot of my posting via ScribeFire, which I have as a plugin on Firefox.
  • Which template are you using? Is it sandbox?
Ho ho ho…..no!!! I’m not ready for the sandbox thing just yet, however ‘easy’ it claims to be. The template I’m currently using is based on the Tarski 1.1.3 one that’s available as standard on the wordpress site. I uploaded my own header, and then tweaked around with some of the customisation. With time though, I might attempt sandbox, but we’ll see.
  • How can I contact you?
Well, because I’m using the free hosting thing on wordpress.com, I yet have a website that’s associated with a personal domain that I can link specifically to this blog and read easily from some central control panel. Maybe, one day that will change, but probably not for at least a little while. And I’m not going to put my personal email up here for obvious reasons. Probably the best way to contact me in that case is to just leave a message in the comments bit. Even if you don’t specifically want to contact me, it would be lovely to hear from you anyway. So there’s really no need to know my email in that case…. :)
